People talk about politics as if it’s this isolated, abstract concept that only matters at election time. Somebody’s politics is their world view. It’s whether they think certain human beings deserve rights. It’s how they think the world should be. And if somebody thinks that the world should be colder, meaner, less accepting and downright hostile to people that are different to them, then sure as fuck is the friendship over.
In the Netherlands, abortion is freely available on demand. Yet the Netherlands boasts the lowest abortion rate in the world, about 6 abortions per 1000 women per year, and the complication and death rates for abortion are miniscule. How do they do it? First of all, contraception is widely available and free — it’s covered by the national health insurance plan. Holland also carries out extensive public education on contraception, family planning, and sexuality. An ethic of personal responsibility for one’s sexual activity is strongly promoted. Of course, some people say that teaching kids about sex and contraception will only encourage them to have lots of sex. But Dutch teenagers tend to have less frequent sex, starting at an older age, than American teenagers, and the Dutch teenage pregnancy rate is 9 times lower than in the U.S.
I endorse evidence-based medicine, and evidence-based activism.
“Kate McCormick, Seduced and pregnant by her father’s friend, Unwed she died from abortion, her only choice, Abandoned in life and death by family, With but a single rose from her mother, Buried only through the kindness of an unknown benefactor, Died February 1875, age 21, Victim of an unforgiving society, Have mercy on us.”
THIS is why we need to keep abortion legal and accessible to everyone who wants or needs one. We have the tools and knowledge to keep abortions safe and we can’t let ourselves regress in the medical field. FYI if someone wants an abortion, they’re going to get it by any means necessary.
i genuinely don’t believe there are trump supporters who are good people. if you knowingly support someone who, as president, would make life less safe for women, lgbt+ people, disabled people, people of colour and poor people, you’re not a good person.

Everything we do, every thought we’ve ever had, is produced by the human brain. But exactly how it operates remains one of the biggest unsolved mysteries, and it seems the more we probe its secrets, the more surprises we find. ❞
a concept: you and i are covered in blankets, in nothing but our underwear. my head on your chest, your face buried in my hair, whispering sweet nothings into my ear. it is raining outside, but we are warm. we are endlessly in love.
you don’t have to be in crisis to deserve help
you don’t have to be bleeding or starving or dying
you don’t have to reach some mythical level of “sick enough” or “sad enough”
you don’t have to keep struggling alone
you deserve help and love and care right now, no matter what, even if you feel like you don’t
